Community Center Programs

The primary focus of our Community Center programs are to provide a supportive atmosphere and activities where independence is promoted for individuals with developmental disabilities. A variety of services and programs are offered to meet the needs and interests of individuals being served.

 Community Center programs include:

Life Management Skills Classes

  • Program offerings include classes focusing on communication, managing money, coping skills, workplace etiquette and job interviewing skills, personal safety and medical/emergency safety.

Computer Literacy Skills

  • Our state-of-the-art computer lab provides individuals participating in our computer literacy skills classes an opportunity to learn safe and effective Internet navigation techniques, how to use email and develop skills with Microsoft office programs such as Word and Publisher.

Music Performance and Appreciation

  • Singing, playing of musical instruments and listening to varied forms of music encourage individuals to explore their musical interests and tastes. Local professional musicians come to Great Bay Services regularly to perform.

Creative Arts

  • Offerings in diverse areas of art are provided to facilitate development of artistic creativity. Areas of art include  watercolors, ceramics, weaving, woodworking, photography, needlepoint and  quilting. Participants also attend art shows at local galleries and visit art museums on a regular basis.

Culinary Arts

  • Culinary Arts participants learn healthy eating habits by focusing on the basic food groups, safe and creative cooking techniques, proper usage of kitchen tools and appliances, meal-menu development and grocery shopping skills.

Volunteering in the Community

Great Bay's Community Service Program provides people the opportunity to give-back to their community. Here are two of the many volunteer opportunities people receiving services at Great Bay participate in to give-back to the community:

  • Culinary Arts program participants design, prepare and deliver boxed lunches once a week to residents of the Cross Road House homeless shelter in Portsmouth.
  • Through a generous donation of flowers from a local florist Great Bay Community Service participants create flower bouquets each week and deliver them to residents of 4 local nursing homes on a rotating basis.
