Great Bay Services History
In 1954, a group of parents concerned about the care and education of their children who had mental retardation, established Great Bay Association for Retarded Citizens, later known as Great Bay School and Training Center. Their vision evolved to include day programming and residential services as a direct response to the lack of services and the poor treatment of individuals and conditions at the Laconia State School.
Today this organization, now known as Great Bay Services, is fifty six years old and serves over one hundred adults with developmental disabilities each day from the Seacoast regions of NH and southern York County Maine. The organization has grown to become one of the most recognized and trusted service providers in the state of New Hampshire.
Great Bay Services provides residential services, educational and recreational programs, life-skills classes, school-to-work programs, employment assessment and placement, nursing services and community integration for our clients.
