School-to-Work Transition

"Get Ready" School-to-Work Transition Program

Get Ready! is our signature transition program with the mission of preparing young people for the world of work.  Great Bay Services has the good fortune of having many opportunities both on and off our seven acre campus that offer a variety of choices to individuals for exploring work options.  Individual preferences and interests always direct our vocational pursuits and any or all of Get Ready’s! three components described below can be chosen:  Vocational Assessment, Job Exploration and Experience, and Employment Readiness.

Vocational Assessment

Utilizing the latest technology in our new computer lab,  participants will complete Interest and Functional Skill Inventories to provide a starting point to getting ready for work.  The goal will be to help the participant focus on jobs that  match well with who they are, and what they want.  Utilizing a variety of assessment tools, the Vocational Assessment will continue throughout their Get Ready! participation as they proceed to work in various jobs available at Great Bay and in our surrounding community.  A final written report and meeting with IEP teams/stakeholders completes the assessment.

 Job Exploration and Experience

Participants can either explore different vocational  interests under the tutelage of our staff or focus on one vocational area throughout their Get Ready! program.  This invaluable on-the-job training will both increase their skill repertoire, and help them further develop their employment goals.  Choices of jobs available at our Center include culinary, light assembly work, landscaping, janitorial, and a wide range of individualized jobs.  Job exploration opportunities in the community develop continuously.

 Employment Readiness:

Participants will receive information and practice in a  variety of job-finding areas:  resume writing, obtaining references,  job searching,   interviewing, etc.  Crucial employment skills that help one keep a job will also be  covered such as:  good work habits, workplace etiquettes, conflict resolution, and personal safety skills.  Attention will be paid to the importance of self-knowledge and self- advocacy, as well as an emphasis upon positive self-esteem and confidence.
