Community Supports Direct Support Professional

(Dover, New Hampshire & Sanford, Maine Positions Available)

We currently have an exciting opportunity waiting for you to join our team as a Job Coach/Direct Support Professional. In this position, you will play a vital and positive role in helping the individuals we serve to achieve their fullest potential as well as building employment relationships that contribute to a high quality of life. Successful candidates will be ethical, patient, reliable, and adaptable, and be able to work independently. A Direct Support Professional Certification is required (a Job Coaching credential is preferred, but training is available), valid driver’s license, proof of auto insurance, reliable vehicle, clean driving record, and criminal background check with no findings are a requirement for this position. Summary:
Direct Support Professionals are part of a team who provide community-based supports to individuals with intellectual & developmental disabilities. The position is 30 hours/week with access to paid time off and health insurance. Dover, NH based Direct Support Professionals report to the Community Participation Services Manager, and Sanford, ME based Direct Support Professionals report to the Community Supports Manager.

Overview:
The supports provided out of our Dover, NH & Sanford, ME offices facilitate the community engagement of individuals with intellectual & developmental disabilities. Each Direct Support Professional (DSP) works with a small group of program members each day, engaging them in community outings as well as a variety of classes led by colleagues, including art, music, reading & writing skills, yoga, and other interests & goals set by the individuals themselves on a yearly basis.
Hours:

Dover location: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-2:30pm

Sanford location: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-2:00pm

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $16.00 per hour

  • Day shift
  • Monday to Friday

​The successful candidate will be subject to background checks, including driving & criminal. A valid driver’s license, evidence of current vehicle registration, inspection and insurance is also required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
​
  • Provide instructional support while assisting members with the implementation of their yearly Individual Service Agreement goals and encouraging independence.
  • Promote quality community connections for members while seeking opportunities in recreational, social and vocational activities.
  • Assure safety of members at all times.
  • Timely completion of all required paperwork, i.e. daily notes, mileage logs, timesheets, progress notes and incident reports.
  • Provide transportation for members in the community using your personal vehicle. (Mileage is reimbursed)
  • Be a positive role model with strong advocacy toward member rights and choice.
  • Attend and participate in all required meetings including Individual Service Agreement meetings as an integral member of the team.
  • Work with individuals who may display mal-adaptive/assaultive behaviors.
  • Exposure to bodily fluids – noting that Great Bay Services is taking precautions around the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Lifting, bending, sitting, walking, running, stooping, carrying objects and other physical movements.
  • Work in various seasonal weather conditions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license and valid vehicle inspection sticker.
  • Carry mandatory auto insurance of no less than 100K/300K.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate for this role shall have the following qualifications:
  • Graduate of high school or recipient of GED certificate.
  • Compassion for those with differences, and an interest in supporting individuals in achieving their goals.
  • Patience.
  • Creativity.
  • First Aid & CPR certification training will be provided to candidates without it.

Then, a Job Coach sounds like the perfect fit! Great Bay Services 
is a human service’s agency offering support for adult individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  Job Coach's work with the Job Seeker providing the support, encouragement and if needed helping them to complete the parts of the job they may struggle with. The Job Coach is not there to do the job for the Job Seeker but to teach, support, direct and guide. The Job coach will help to create a natural support team and work with the employer to help build the independence of the Job Seeker.
