Our Volunteer Efforts
Volunteerism is crucial to many in our community; that means it's crucial to us too. 
​
​As of July 2023, we are at over 2,250 volunteering hours since starting our volunteering program in September, 2021!
Great Bay Services staff and participants volunteer at a variety of places in the community surrounding our Dover, NH and Sanford, ME locations. 

In 2019 and 2021 Great Bay Services has also volunteered with the Toys for Tots holiday toy drive which helps over 1,400 children each year.

​Our volunteers have arranged independent food drives and made animal beds and dog toys for Grammy Rose Dog Sanctuary, Safe Haven Humane Society, and Pope Memorial Humane Society. Along with a Coat Drive for House Of Hope in Berwick, Maine.

2023 Volunteer of The Year

​On April 24, 2023 Scott Butler and a group of his peers went to the state house in Augusta, Maine. When there, he was presented a congratulatory speech and an award for becoming the 2023 Maine Volunteer of the Year by the Maine state governor. This is an amazing accomplishment and we would like to highlight some of Mr. Butler's volunteer acts that earned him this honor.

- Scott volunteers at the York County Shelter Programs food pantry on Fridays. He helps to sort and separate the good food from the bad. He helps to stock shelves and take out boxes to the compactor. 

- Scott volunteers at Meals On Wheels on Thursdays. He helps to hand out meals to the elderly. 

- Scott volunteers at Curtis Lake Church on Wednesdays, he packs food boxes and helps to put bread in bags. 

- Scott volunteers at Strafford Nutrition Meals on Wheels on Tuesdays helps to do the dishes and  put dates on the trays. 

- Scott volunteers at Grammy Rose Dog Rescue & Sanctuary, Inc. on Fridays he plays with, cleans up after, and engages the dogs.

- Scott helped collect, sort and count the Toys For Tots Southern York County Maine Sanford/Springvale campaign.

- Scott volunteers at the cemeteries, helping to rake, pick up trash, and sticks. 

- Scott helped with food preparations for Friends Giving and art show preparations for Great bay Services.

With his a passion for volunteering, and helping his community it is no surprise that he won! Congratulations to Scott and the other award winners.

2022 Governor's Awards
April 8th 2022 was an exciting day at Great Bay Services, we found out that we had won the Outstanding Volunteer Team Award for the 36th  Governor’s Service Awards!
​
Great Bay Services Sanford Maine, was awarded this honor due to their valiant volunteer effort, highlighting on their assistance in 2021 with the Toys for Tots program.

From October to December Great Bay Services volunteers did 216 hours of community service!
Thank you and congratulations again, to Cory Long and all of our hardworking volunteers for earning this honor. You have made volunteerism your mission and you have achieved it! This award is so very deserved and we are so proud of you all!
